Some I knew would volunteer to show up early to make sandwiches and put together fruit bags just to get in early and get a seat in the sweltering venue. I, of course couldnt care less. I just showed up and did my time. The tickets were a pain in the butt alright. The food was just great for a diabetic, though I didnt know it then. I always was out of it shortly after eating that crap. Thank goodness its all over now.

did anyone see the last 2 episodes of dr phil concerning the abduction of two girls by their father into the remote mennonite communities in belize?.
it was interesting to hear dr phil describe the girls' affect as being "flat" and that something just wasn't right.
the mother believes the girls have been brainwashed into the "plain" lifestyle.
I saw the first and second shows and think the mother is a little disengenuous. She is a whack job who happens to have married a fanatic. Its interesting that he brought the girls back and didn't hide out forever. Sure he knows he's got warrants against him, but that doesn't mean he couldn't have dissappeared if he wanted to.
The mother may be more in the mainstream of society, I get that, but she also has attempted suicide a couple of times and shown herself to be out of balance. You can see it in how she handles herself. The girls are sweet and deserve better than these two.
I actually liked the fact that the father was so straightforward with Doc. Phil when they spoke. He's a religious nut alright. He sounded like
"Brother Conservative" in congregations of JW's around here that I've met.

when i was 13, i remember an 18 year old "brother" telling me that he and his friends were part of some pact called the "armageddon club".
the object of this club/pact was to stay single(unmarried) until armaggedon.
the last person to stay single would win something like a sum of money or bragging rights i guess.
This phrase was always seen by me as a sort of joke, not a serious vow or goal. It was usually those who were unable to find someone interested in thier butt ugly face. It was a great excuse for forced singleness, "For the Kinggom's sake." Lame.Moslty it was Pioneers who were hardcore and ...physically unattractive.

i am going to start this debate of by saying that those of us who were raised in the so called truth, and i being one of them, can only come to terms with our past by accepting that our parents infected our minds like a virus infects a computer.
we wouldn't categorise children according to their parents' political stance, since they are too young to make up their minds about such matters.
but they (jw) segregate them from the world.
Yep, Jesus and I have a close personal relationship. Sometimes we just hang out and shoot hoops. I tell ya he's one good friend. It turns out we both dated the same girl in high school.

Ok, let's see. God places the curse on man for sinning. God requires that the first man die for his sins to pay for his sins. He dies. But that's not enough. All other offspring are to die too. Why? Because God cursed them for being born from the sinner. So, the only logical thing to do is to kill another perfect man who is innocent.
What the hell happened to a pardon that would have spared all this suffering? Judges have that discretion. How about the most powerful, righteous judge of all?
Logically we must suffer so he can be right. That sounds like pride to me. But God has no sinful pride.
